Technology

zwaveexam tableThe laser chosen by your doctor is very important in achieving your best LASIK results. Surgeon skill and laser technology are two of the most important factors to consider when choosing a LASIK provider. Silverstein Eye Centers employs the most technologically advanced equipment featuring the Bausch and Lomb Technolas 217z excimer laser and the Orbscan-Zywave wavefront guided corneal mapping systems. The specially designed laser center and skilled staff utilize precise pre- and post-operative examinations and measurements which ensure the best visual quality, patient care, and surgical results.

The Bausch and Lomb Zyoptix laser introduces a new personalized laser vision correction system unique to each eye for sharp, clear, and accurate vision.

Small imperfections in the shape of the eye can cause scattering of light which in turn contributes to vision impairment. This light scatter forms distinct patterns within the eye known as aberrations. The innovative design of the Zyoptix personalized laser vision correction system allows Silverstein Eye Centers to measure these aberrations and create a three-dimensional corneal map, then plan treatment which matches the eye’s individual aberrations. The result is a completely Custom LASIK procedure.

Advantages of Bausch and Lomb Zyoptix

Small flying spot technology- Allows for more precise placement of the laser pattern to customize treatments and blend the treatment edges giving a smoother corneal shape.

Wide treatment zone-The Bausch and Lomb laser provides the largest diameter treatment zone available. This allows the laser to smooth and blend beyond the required treatment area to minimize the risk of nighttime glare and halos.

Active eye tracker-The most advanced eye tracker in the industry allows the laser to follow any eye movement during the procedure, eliminating the possibility of laser pulses being applied in the wrong location.

Custom LASIK and Wavefront Technology

mapping eyeWavefront technology was developed by astronomers who use adaptive optics to view stars using ground-based Keck telescopes with clarity equal to the Hubble Space Telescope. The technology was designed to eliminate the irregularities and distortions of the Earth’s atmosphere in order to provide increased clarity of images viewed through ground-based telescopes.

With this same technology, the doctors at Silverstein Eye Centers can obtain a wavefront map of an individual’s visual system. This wavefront map is the measurement of a group of light rays as they travel through the optical system of the human eye.

Custom LASIK represents the very latest in LASIK technology.

Wavefront technology measures from front to back to create a three-dimensional corneal map. A patient’s unique visual irregularities are contained in this map, which is then sent to the laser via computer. The wavefront map effectively guides the laser in customizing the treatment to your individual visual irregularities, producing a truly personalized LASIK treatment.

Custom LASIK offers the following advantages:
• Greater likelihood of achieving 20/20 or better vision
• Reduced likelihood of night-vision disturbances and glare
• Potential also exists for Custom LASIK to treat those people who have lost best-corrected
  vision from any previous surgery
• Requires less time to achieve desired results
