LASIK or Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis reshapes the cornea by removing tissue beneath the surface of the cornea.

LASIK laser vision correction has enabled millions of people who are nearsighted, farsighted — or who have astigmatism — to reduce or eliminate their dependency on glasses or contact lenses.

The LASIK procedure uses a cool beam of light from the excimer laser. This usually takes about 60 seconds. During the LASIK procedure, anesthesia is achieved with numbing eye drops, After reshaping, the corneal flap is placed back into its orginal position. No stitches are required and the flap seals after a few seconds.

You will remain awake during the procedure and the only anesthetic you will need is eye drops. Anticipate being in our office about two hours on the day of the procedure. Since the first hour after the procedure is a critical time for healing, a special one-hour post-operative examination helps ensure the best possible patient safety and surgical result.

Some of the advantages of LASIK are little or no postoperative discomfort. Clear vision can be achieved as early as the next morning. Most patients can return to work the very next day, with minor visual fluctuations within the first week or two. Sensation of some dryness on the eye can be expected during the recovery period. You will take an antibiotic drop a few times a day for less than a week following your procedure.

What is Custom LASIK

"Personalized Vision Correction"

CustomLASIK is a laser vision correction procedure that uses the unique visual characteristics of your eye to customize your treatment. It provides an additional level of precise data about your vision requirements using wavefront technology. A device called a wavefront analyzer measures the way light travels through your eye and compares it to the way light travels through an eye with perfect vision. The device then creates a 3-D wavefront map that is unique in the same way that your DNA is unique to you. Your wavefront map provides a detailed diagram of your vision that allows your doctor to provide you with truly personalized vision correction.

Several Types of visual imperfections, referred to as lower and higher aberrations exist within the eye and can affect your vision. With convential LASIK, only lower aberrations (such as: nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism)can be measured and treated. However, these do not account for all potential vision imperfections. Higher order aberrations can also have a signficant impact on one's vision.

CustomLASIK may help to correct these higher order aberrations that, in the past, could not be adequately corrected with glasses, contacts or conventional LASIK treatments. CustomLASIK may provide you with a better quality of vision.
